Are you kidding me with this weather? I've been a bit of a broken record about it, and please correct me if I'm wrong but does it not feel a bit northern California-y here in NYC right now? Like we have been gifted an additional month of spring or ...(as I go off the deep end of dramatic), a whole 5th season just as a treat for 2012? It's been years since I've felt so alive in the depths of winter, normally I am just trying to get through March, hanging on to the weekend escapes to Florida or a trip to the mountains. Grey skies and me do not mix. So this? This sunny 65+ degree breezy microclimate we're feeling here these days....I'll take it!! The weekend felt elongated due to a Friday night out at Minetta Tavern (not our maiden voyage, but these burgers were craved) with some old friends which lead to some classic mid-90s cover band listening at Red Lion. (DMB will always take me back to a time when summer meant not planning more than a day or two ahead of time and Star Lake Amphitheater had all the makings of a perfect night in June.) And as the babies of 1982 all turn 30 this year, that means more surprise celebrations to be attended! Saturday afternoon, in the amazing little corner niche of the Bowrey Hotel's Gemma restaurant, my sweet friend Milly walked into a room full of cheers as she was totally taken off guard---expecting only one other couple for brunch, she got 20 of us! Not only do Austrailians know how to throw a good party, this crew is some of the most down to earth people we've met here during our tenure in NYC. (It doesn't hurt that their accents make me swoon.) Uptown and downtown we went on Saturday evening, floating on the good vibes of a beautiful weekend....and Sunday, as Lee golfed with some buddies in Jersey, I planted myself at a Le Pain in the west village and, at a table for 1 for close to 6 hours, buried my nose into my Kindle, gabbed away on number of phone dates with friends, befriended the Swedish foursome sitting on my left, sipped too many coffees, watched the happy New Yorkers stroll about, contemplated eating the entire jar of chocolate spread.... and enjoyed every second of it.
