*i lovvveee brian andreas. *is it april 1st yet? *i really bug myself with wishing for 2012 to be here... *but 2011 has been incredible but ending on a hanging note. *april 1st I will officially be on board with CardsByAnne(!!!) *a dream and passion to come true and alive, I've wanted this for so long... *until feb 1st, I must ride out the questions that come with working for a massive pharma co. *unsettling... *in the holiday moments there has been calm and joy. *in the everydayness there's been ancy feelings and just get through it vibes. *resolutions have been made.. *the list checked twice... *simple christmas exchange btwn me and lee this year *smart wool socks, slippers and earmuffs are my guesses. *im good at this game, Lee's "i have no clue what you are talking about" smirk gives it away;) *anddddd I forgot to water the Xmas tree this morning! *shoot *5 days til Christmas!
One of the top reasons I love my parents is their willingness, ability and energy to travel to NYC for even just a 24hour stint to see Lee & I around Christmastime. After a long week for my Dad and my Mom wrapping up what is the busiest season for CBA, they hopped a flight at 8am on Satuday morning simply to have a day with us. Catching up over tea and coffee in 7B, enjoying a quick visit to the Rockafeller Tree and St. Patrick's in midtown (good lordy it is tourist central up there!), and a holiday dinner feast at The Beacon and concert at Carnegie Hall(*as the choir sang with the NY Pops Orchestra, I was flooded with childhood memories of my CFC days gone by)...we couldn't have asked for a better string of New Yorky moments yesterday.
Mom & Dad will be to 7B any moment now. To my Dad, Christmas is any day with his family. And nothing makes me feel all warm and fuzzy for the holidays and familytime like the Eat N Park commercial shown on local Pittsburgh channels in December :) Ohhhhh that star....so cute! We're off for a day of brunching, maybe Rock Xmas Tree visiting, and a festive dinner and Holiday Pops concert @ Carnegie Hall tonight. Missing my siblings and wish we could all be together today... In my first post as a Mobile Weebly Beta tester(!), I couldn't help but share a midday pick me up, mindful living quote. For in finding quotes and passages that allow for a quick Friday reflection, a peace is brought to me at the end of a crazy week. In our apartment, there's been so much buzzing about the next life chapter. With professional moves happening on my end(I will divulge soon) and 2012 peeking strongly around the corner, emotions have run high. A fork on the road presented, one that I had hoped to come at some point just perhaps just not at this exact month. One that the universe presented and I knew that yes, a leap of faith needed to happen. No time to be timid or less tenacious but to jump jump jump on and see where it goes :) In every December we rediscover the child in us all. We can't help but find magic in the season through the eyes of little ones or the sparkling lights that light the city. Rebirth, renewed senses of love and family and of becoming all that you dreamed of for oneself...big sighs, big hugs, big changes. *lots of exciting changes on the work front
*i feel a new life chapter about to take off *but until then... *the december diary is full of fun *mom & dad arrive on saturday morning (!) *because what is better than the holiday pops concert at christmastime :) *trader joes at 8am is by far my favorite time to shop *it's like a secret club of those who love leisurely perusing the aisles... *and everything...everything at joe's always look so darn delish. *no more time to ruminate this morning... *happy tuesday (allow me to be blonde for a moment) Sooo....like.... umm.... the holidays take alot of energy! Another thing that takes alot of enery is my body healing this darn finger. Mother trucker it is annoying. But I digress. A suburban Saturday was just what the doctor ordered. We merrily made our way out of the City, chuckling at the line of cars waiting at the Lincoln Tunnel as fled town, vans full of families wanting to shop til they drop, experience a slice of NYC life at Christmastime. I'm sure they were as ancy to get to their destination as we were. A quick afternoon visit to Justin & Neha's and some moments with our nieces set the day off on the right foot. And baby snuggles with Elise? Aside from the most adorable bottom lip quiver turned "who is holiding me and why isnt it my Mom/Dad" tear fest, I was able to garner a few smiles from her! Jaina is just on fire these days, her personality blooming. Quick as a whip and boy does she know what she wants :) And who doesnt love a set of friends that welcome you into their home for a night of holiday partying with pizza and ribs and wine and homemade beer? It goes without saying, we love visiting the Johnsons. Some cheesy ugly terrible kmart/thrift store wardrobe change and we were ready to attend the Hollenbeck party in style. Of note: Kit's MAC-eyeliner-painted-stache was amazinggggg. Men and bourbon. Women and wine. Jingle bell shorts and 1993 holiday smocks. It's safe to say, we had a great time :)
I'm always a sucker for holiday movies. I can watch Home Alone or Christmas Vacation or A Christmas Story each year, probably never viewing each from start to finish, but catching the last 3/4 on TNT at the perfect time: Friday, cozy and cuddled on the couch. Vino poured. I love that we wait for certain lines of the movies, repeat in sync with the characters and rewind when "crap we missed it!" occurs. But...hands down, a movie that I get so crazy excited to watch and bawl my greenish hazel eyes out is The Family Man. And Nick Cage, you're a joke, but in this movie...I love everything about you. It always reminds me what my parents instilled upon me and my siblings from a young age....if you have love, if you have family, if you have friends and a community to call your own....you are winning at life.
A seasonal candle fills our apartment with a warm and holiday scent this morning. Coupled with the mix of pine from the tree and slippers covering our tootsies this morning, I'd say we are fully submerged in holiday goodness :) Off to Philadelphia this afternoon for the Hollenbeck Christmas Party! There are matching ugly xmas turtlenecks involved in our getup for tonight and I'm thinking a sparkly silver gitter headband should make an appearance, too. We're going light on Christmas presents this year in the Markle household. Lots of fun and travel had and experienced this fall and I actually love the idea of trying to get a few really great stocking stuffers :) Some ideas that everyone should love! Whiskey Stones. For the sophisticated drinker in your life. Get a set of monogrammed tasting glasses and youve got a great gift! Restoration Hardware Luxe Fur Slippers. These puppies have gained quite the female following. Grab yourself, your mom, your sister, your niece and your best friend a pair. If you got a set for all those people it would only be $70! J Crew Polka Dot PJ Pants. Perfect thickness. Super festive. $20. A DIY easy peasy project. 99cent store mug. Painted with chalkboard paint. I think this is adorable... F21 Stretch Skinny Jean. Dont get me wrong, I love my 7s and R&Rs, but for $10.50, and a decent fit with stretch, bootie flattering...it's a no brainer. And while we're at it, some denim style observations from a master: "When women wear denim, [the derriere] must look elegant. It’s the second thing every woman looks at in the mirror, but it’s the first thing she cares about. She does that half twirl, her back arched and her head craned around. If the jeans are right, the experience is transforming, like putting on a magic cloak." -Ritu Kumar, designer |
