More details on this intimate affair to come sometime this week!
Bride & Groom to be: matching Elvis impersonators (!!!).
Me & Lee: Peter Pan & Tink
I promised to get some photo highlights out to friends and family by tonight, but dont worry....a full rundown of the 2.5 days spent in Chicago for my sister's wedding will come in the next few days. These photos and blurbs are a good teaser of the unique and awesome wedding they threw for all their guests. Classy elegance with SUCH individual flair. I'm not sure many couples couldve pulled off a nuptial extravaganza like this, but it's safe to say....Liz & Brady 110% did ;) More details on this intimate affair to come sometime this week! Friday night, pre-rehersal dinner party. Cool (and as cute) as cucumbers:) YEP. Wipe off your glasses, you're seeing this correctly. Costume party rehersal dinner! Bride & Groom to be: matching Elvis impersonators (!!!). Me & Lee: Peter Pan & Tink Just your average pre-wedding Team Liz vs Team Brady TACKLE football game. (wait til you see the tshirts.) Let's make this girl a bride :) Getting dolled up! One *STUNNING* bride and over the moon happy MOH :) I DO!

2 years ago (on Oct 30th), Lee snuck me up the UWS for a walk through Central Park before dinner(*I had been begging for weeks to get him up there with me as I spent so many weekends running 5Ks in the gorgeous fall foliage.) It was a Friday night, and the weather had officially turned to brisk/cold anything but indian summer October. Walking along the path from the Columbus Circle entrance to the park to Sheeps Meadow will be one of the most memorable strolls of my life. I remember those classic CP bridges we crossed as we would stop and take in the moment. The makings of a perfect fall date....(little did I know;) So while we still have a month + a few days to go until our actual anniversary, the last week of October will always hold a special place in my heart. Swept off my feet and surprised in a way that I will never, ever forget. We celebrated our engagement anniversary last year with the most amazing fall tasting menu @ Telepan on W 69th. We talked about that meal all year to any friends that would listen! ("and the acorn squash, red snapper with beets and lobster puree and cauliflower soup, ah, you just have to go!") And as we walked into Telepan last night, I immediately thought: I love this tradition. Maybe for our actual anniversary we will stay in and cook and watch our wedding video and just be. But our engagementversary will always be this. A night out. Fall food. Pumpkin ice cream sunday. Lee reflecting on how nervous he was when he picked up my ring. And me gushing about how life ever since that moment has only gotten better and better:) PS: I do the majority of my restaurant reservation booking on OpenTable.com. They have a special comments section upon making your reservation and I thought, oh what the heck, "This meal will celebrate the 2nd anniversary of our engagement, we love Telepan!" And voila. "Happy Anniversary" en chocolate on our plates. It's the little things :)
Lee and I have been waiting for this concert to come back to NYC for over 3yrs now. John Williams, arguably the most successful American composer and genius behind the orchestral arrangements of Star Wars, Jurassic Park, ET, Superman, Indiana Jones...and well, the list goes on...conducted the NY Pops orchestra for a one night only affair. (ps: I think one of his *absolute bests* was Home Alone.) Cocktails overlooking Central Park + "A Night at the Movies" at Lincoln Center with our other fav married folk couples was a heck of a good Tuesday. I sometimes buy things soley because they remind me of home. And the Steelers. And maybe even my high school colors. But mostly just Pittsburgh. This skirt + consignment store find = nobrainer ;) I'm making the rounds testing out all the juicerias of the city to find my fav. Everyone's palate is so different and the last time I tried Liquiteria I was no where near able to gag down the green juices. This morning I gave it another whirl and loved it. Very "creamy" for being an all-greens blend. So far my rankings are: Organic Ave (fresh factor is huge for me on this one), Liquiteria, Terri Organic. This gal to the left (toddler Elizabeth, in the "Elizabeth Dress" and all her sass!) is getting married this weekend (!!!) I. cannot. contain. my. excitement. As I started mentally packing for the trip last night I had a laugh over what my suitcase would contain: one Tinkerbell costume, a Rent the Runway bridesmaid dress, one pair of heels, workout clothes (for the Kernion vs Clegg fam football game, natch), and maybe one travel outfit. And that's it. Amazing. And NEXT week....it's off to Arizona for the Downing-Fletcher wedding extravaganza. We're not sure when we'll be back in the southwest again so we're packing it to the brim with side excursions and activities! So far our plans include hiking Camelback Mtn(photo) + day trip to Sedona + moutain biking + all the welcome party events + the wedding of our dear friends. Sold. I take goal setting pretty seriously. Crushed with the news last year that my wonky hips not only required surgery to repair a left labrael tear & bone spurs on my femur....but that the condition I have is bilateral. And if I log too many miles....it's destined to happen to my right one. *sigh sigh sigh* Letting go of a lifelong goal to run a marathon was a big emotional THING to overcome. I dreamed of crossing that finish line with Lee and my parents there (my Dad's quite the competitive runner and logged a number of 26.2milers in his life...and a few more to come I am sure:) I ran more NYRoadRunner races than I can count to get my automatic bid for the NYC Marathon. I did all these things and had such a plan... even to the point that marathon training was going to be my bridal-workout-prep last fall. Obviously that didnt happen. But with yoga and Equinox and spinning....this combo has me in better shape than running ever did. And yet, I feel like I need something to get me over the marathon dream. Something that will push me physcially and emotionally and have me in the throws of endorphin highs and dont-fail-on-me-now-body challeneges/lows. It wont be the same and I'll never have that framed pic of me crossing the finish line in Central Park...but I'll 100% be able to look myself in the eye and know that, like running a marathon, this feat will be something I thought wasn't even possible to complete, LET ALONE complete well. Soooo..... I'm seriously considering a 30-day Bikram Challenge in early 2012. Crazy? Perhaps. Do-able? Totally. I've got this. I couldnt sleep on Friday night. Not a single good dose of shut eye. My excitement for Saturday was *almost* as high as a kid on Christmas Eve. Almost. A 6am wakeup call and I sprung out of bed and hit the road like 7am was no big deal(read: big deal)...but there were important people to see and to meet :) Getting to and from NYC can always be dramatic (either for the positive-no traffic, sunny day, a clear NJ Turnpike....or negative- traffic jam after immediately exiting the Lincoln Tunnel or a 3 car accident just 12miles from destination.) Both happened to me this weekend. But I digress. BABIES. After a quick stop at Murray's bagels before leaving the city(cardinal rule of mine for visiting a family with children: bring food in exchange for cuddles) and finally arriving to the Conshohocken....I swept up baby Leighton without even saying hi to Abby. It was clear I was here for snuggles with L and not girl chat ;) She has grown so much since just one month ago and as I bounced and made smiley faces at that darling little girl, I knew that I loved this Saturday already.... My brother and sister in law's house was the next stop on Babies & Burbs Tour. Justin opened the door holding his perfect little baby girl wearing the most soft little pink onsie. I couldnt wash my hands fast enough to give my new niece Elise a squeeze! We caught up over bagels and Jaina was in all her 2yr old glory, bouncing from one toy to the next. It's amazing how much she's changed and grown this year...and in just a few short weeks, she's going to revive her role as go-to flowergirl of the Markle family for Andrew & Irina's wedding, sparkly glitter shoes and all :) 2 hour car trip, 2 infants and a 2yr old all before noon? I needed more coffee. The next stop for the rest of the day/night was to Carbs' house for a replicated version of our Carbs-Kernion afternoons of college days gone by. I think we talked for 13 hours straight yesterday and bounced from a picnic lunch (lunch = wine & cheese) at the Chaddsford Winery to Hickory Lane to dinner at A La Maison Bistro, a darling BYO on the Main Line. (Mmm mussels & steak frites for two, please.) And then best husband of the week award goes to Carbs' hubby Kit....for getting the chiminea fire going outback before we arrived home. Sweatpants + Ravenswood Cab + chilly fall night + clear sky dotted with stars = lovely, simply lovely. Family + friends who are like family. My Philadelphia crew :) And so it goes....another fall weekend down. Next up: sister's wedding in Chicago! MOH speech time Sunday commences in 3.....2....1 (go.)
Oh a random assortment it what you wanted?! You got it. As the sun creeps around the building outside my window, I'm happy to get this day going and anxiously awaiting a weekend of girlfriends and babies! On the agenda: tapas & wine with Linds A tonight and a full Saturday of Philadelphia phun tomorrow including but not limited to: snuggles with my new neice AND baby Leighton...and then hours and hours of catching up/venting/laughing/cheersing with my Carbs :) Gonna have some fun, show you how it's done....T.G.I.F. (how great was that fall line-up in the early 90s?) Steam Basket. Brides to be, this is a great random registry item. Makes the whole "dinner for 2" option very simple. Throw in some of TJ's butternut squash trangioli (a staple in 7B), chopped veggies in the basket and voila! Leftover apples from all that fall baking? :) Crunchies. I'm a big all day muncher (who 100% ascribes to the 5-6 small meals a day theory of eating.) Dried fruit has always been a favorite of mine but the extra added sugar started to feel like I was eating too much candy. And then along came Crunchies where the only thing taken out is the H20. No additives or preservatives put back to increase shelf life. Astronaut food! :) Kombucha. A magical old world beverage that is thought to have healing, detoxifying and energizing properties for the mind and body. It contains mutiple yeast and bacteria strands that produce a variety of acids known for cleaning one's system. (It tasted super sweet which was a surprise and the natural carbonation from the yeast added a good kick!) Essie's Chinchilly Nail Polish. My first comment is that Essie >>>>(that's 4x greater) than OPI. I think their brand team has a better eye for creating a line of polishes as a fashion integration to a wardrobe not simply a pop of color. Ah, 1st world industries. Anyways, this is my new go-to neutral for this fall that replaced Wicked (an overwhelming fall favorite of the 20something NYC gal.) Only in New York...
Do you have a 7am coffee date tomorrow rescheduled by your friend who works in fashion... ....because lastminutechangeofplans... ...J.Lo is meeting with her office in the morning. (!!!) Raincheck accepted :) Dooo dooo dooo :)
Dont mind meeee.... Just being #1 wife of the year over here waiting for the guy to come home... (*surprise homemade turkey corn chili and chedder garlic biscuits) I win. *i know self-transformation is a lifelong, on going process...
*but whoa have i seen leaps and bounds made within myself over the past 2 years... *through yoga, through moving meditation, through calm and stillness. *in trying to live a most authenitic life, ive found myself. *and i like what stirs inside of my heart and mind each day. *in camel pose, i used to feel the tears well up, my heart chakra wanting to release but clenching inward. *i would cry, collapse, shake in those first months... *i now feel energized, open, empowered. *and strong. *ready for whatever comes my way....our way... *i know it sounds crazy, but i really see the world with a different set of eyes... *and simply put, i react better. *lots to do on this week's checklist *lots to look forward to this *saturday* *one thing at a time... *xoxo |
